AFBF Encourages Everyone to Press Lawmakers for Five-Year Farm Bill

During Congress’ August recess – the American Farm Bureau Federation is bringing the heat to make sure Congress members know they need to get things done when they return to work next month. AFBF President Bob Stallman says the farm bill should be at the top of their priority list. Stallman says there is plenty of time in this Congress to pass a five-year farm bill – but they must remain focused on getting it done. He urges farmers and ranchers to continue sending their lawmakers the message about the importance of completing a five-year farm bill now – not a one-year extension – which Stallman considers a cop-out.

Another extension doesn’t give farmers and ranchers the certainty they need to plan the crops they intend to grow and obtain financing ahead of time – according to AFBF. Stallman says everyone who eats needs a farm bill – so everyone should tell their Senators and Representatives to get the job done.
