EPA Has Bridges to Build with Ag Community

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Nominee Gina McCarthy said during her Senate confirmation hearing the EPA has bridges to build with the agriculture community – and she wants the opportunity to change that relationship. McCarthy suggests the agency is already trying to undo some damage done between the agency and rural America during the past four-years. Most recently – the release of personal information about CAFO owners by EPA to environmental groups has caused tension in agency relations with rural America.

EPA originally gathered that information with the intent to create a CAFOs national database. McCarthy says she will commit to getting that information back on the path forward and improving the system at EPA. McCarthy was questioned over various issues affecting agriculture during her confirmation hearing – but even her harshest critics indicate she should be confirmed as the EPA’s next administrator.
