Hawkins Appointed Director of Indiana Grain Buyers and Licensing Warehouse Agency

On Wednesday Lieutenant Governor Sue  Ellspermann, Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development and Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Gina Sheets announce the appointment of Jerome Hawkins as the director of Indiana Grain Buyers and Warehouse Licensing Agency and the chairman of the board for the Indiana Grain Indemnity Corporation. “Jerome’s passion for agriculture and service has taken the Grain Buyers and Warehouse Licensing Agency to world-wide recognition,” said Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann. “His experience, combined with the unique structure and success of the indemnity corporation, has again demonstrated Indiana’s leadership on a larger playing field, and illustrates our continuing goal to take Indiana from good to great.” Starting with the agency as an auditor in 1999, Hawkins moved to audit supervisor in 2008 and was appointed director of Indiana Grain Buyers in 2009. 

 

Hawkins’ leadership is very well known in agriculture as he serves on the Indiana Corn Marketing Council Board. He works with the National Corn Growers Association Leadership as chairman of the Industry Issues and Development Committee. Hawkins was also the past chair for the Industry Technology and Uniformity Committee for the Association of Grain Regulatory Officials, where he worked as a consultant with the United Nations and Voca Consult in Novi Sad and Belgrade Serbia Hawkins is a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana. He lives in Bedford with his wife and two daughters.
