New Administration to Participate in FFA Week Kickoff

Governor Mike Pence and Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann will join the Indiana kick off celebration of National FFA Week February 16-23, 2013. The Governor and Lt. Governor will meet for a brief meeting and photo opportunity with the Indiana FFA Officers and members for FFA Page Day on Monday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Statehouse.

“The FFA organization is vitally important to Indiana’s strong agriculture sector, as they prepare our next generation of farmers, researchers, and producers,” said Ellspermann, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture. “Today’s page day is an important educational opportunity for these students to see the process of a bill becoming law.”

“We are so grateful to Governor Pence and Lt. Governor Ellsperman for taking the time to meet with our FFA Officers and members,” said Steve Hickey, executive director of leadership of the Indiana FFA. “FFA members are the innovators and leaders of tomorrow. What better way to learn how to be a leader than learning from the top leaders of our State.”

The Indiana FFA state officers and members will also be participating in the Indiana House Page Program and the Indiana Senate Page Program. This opportunity will allow them a first-hand view of the legislative process. Students will be paired with state legislators and will assist them with daily tasks during a full day of session.

This year’s FFA Week theme is Grow, and it celebrates more than 80 years of FFA traditions while eagerly anticipating the organization’s future. Through agricultural education and hands‐on learning, FFA members are preparing for the more than 300 career opportunities in the food, fiber and natural resources industry.
