Organizations Join, Urge House to Pass Immigration Reform

More than 400 leading U.S. businesses and advocacy organizations – including the American Farm Bureau Federation – sent a letter to U.S. House Speaker John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi calling on the House to enact immigration reform legislation. These organizations says reform of an outdated, broken immigration system is essential if the U.S. is to achieve a fully revitalized economy providing rewarding, lasting jobs and opportunities for all Americans. If done right – they believe reform will also serve to protect and complement the U.S. workforce – generating greater productivity and economic activity that will lead to new innovations, products, businesses and jobs in communities across the nation. The failure to act is not an option – according to these organizations – which say the U.S. can’t afford to be content and watch a generation-old immigration system work more and more against the overall national interest.

The House and Senate are scheduled to adjourn Friday for five-weeks – but the Hagstrom Report says some House members may actually vote to stay in session due to its failure to act on a budget bill, immigration or the farm bill.
