USDA Urging Livestock Producers to Enroll in Disaster Assistance by Deadline

USDA is encouraging producers who are eligible to sign up for disaster assistance by the September 30th deadline.  Livestock producers that have had grazing losses since October 2011 may be eligible for benefits. USDA is encouraging producers to register, request an appointment or begin a Livestock Forage Disaster Program application with their county FSA office before the start of next month.  Producers who sign up after October first will be subject to payment reductions as required in the 2011 Budget Control Act.  Producers won’t be subject to the reductions if they have already signed up or have an appointment scheduled, even if the appointment is beyond the deadline.

USDA Secretary Vilsack said “In just four months since disaster assistance enrollments began, we’ve processed 240,000 applications to help farmers and ranchers who suffered losses.” To learn more about USDA disaster relief programs, producers can review the 2014 Farm Bill fact sheet at www.fsa.usda.gov/farmbill.
