Eye on the Ethanol Car as Series Moves to Rain-Soaked Iowa

Hoosier Ag Today’s Eye on the Ethanol Car is a weekly conversation with Ryan Hunter-Reay, driver of the Ethanol sponsored car in the IRL IndyCar Series. This weekend is like a home race for Team Ethanol as they enter Iowa corn country where so much of the renewable fuel is grown and produced. But floods in the state have severely impacted agricultural fields and now threaten numerous levees along the Mississippi River.

Floods are not a problem at Iowa Speedway in Newton and the race activities for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 Presented by Pioneer will all go on as scheduled. But as Ryan told Hoosier Ag Today the Iowa flood victims will be on the minds of the IndyCar drivers.

The Indy Racing League has announced that it and its teams are donating $60,000 to the Iowa chapter of the American Red Cross for direct aid to flood and tornado victims. Also a new fundraising effort for Iowans has been established through the Iowa Speedway Foundation. “Race2Recovery” will set up shop at the speedway this weekend and hopes to raise $1 million by September 20th.
