Local and visiting farmers donated hundreds of pounds of canned and nonperishable food items yesterday for the Ohio Association of Foodbanks. The food drive was part of the Farm Science Review’s “Fifty Years of Forecasting the Future.” Visitors who brought two or more cans of food to the Review at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London, Ohio throughout the day received one free pair of work gloves provided by Mid-American Glove Co. “Farmers take the charge in feeding our world’s populations, and the Farm Science Review.
Review offers them the latest innovations for meeting this goal,” said Matthew Sullivan, Assistant Manager of the Farm Science Review. “As the demand for food doubles over the next 40 years for a projected 9 billion population, both agriculture and charitable giving will become even more vital for our world.” The FFA chapter of the Miami Valley Career and Technical Center greeted attendees and collected their donations. The Farm Science Review thanked the Career and Technical Center, Mid-American Glove Co. and all the attendants that brought food for their work at the event. “This food drive only further emphasizes the enormously important role of the agriculture community in ending hunger,” said Lisa Hamler-Fugitt, Executive Director of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks. “As Ohio’s largest charitable response to hunger, we could not be more grateful for the Farm Science Review’s leadership and support.” The 600+ exhibitors at the Review also recognize the need to use the event as an opportunity to showcase their solutions for feeding a growing population.
