Retiring Farm Bureau Director Turns to Soybean Board

This week the Indiana Soybean Alliance announced the names of 3 Hoosier soybean farmers newly elected to the board of directors. They join other re-elected directors who begin the new term in December. Josh Kirkpatrick of Fountain County is a new District 3 director, and David Rodibaugh and Kendell Culp, both from Jasper County, will represent District 1.

Culp was recently honored for his 12 years as a director for Indiana Farm Bureau. He’ll tenure off the board in December. Indiana Farm Bureau President Don Villwock ((pictured with AFBF President Bob Stallman) makes it clear ISA is getting an active board member.

“His district meetings are some of the best we have in the state,” Villwock told HAT. “He’s had some outstanding speakers throughout the years that attend those meetings. He’s very good at making sure everyone attends functions to get out a good crowd and make sure people are doing their responsibility, whether that’s interviewing candidates for officer, leadership development, young farmers, and I’d really say he’s developed a tremendous system her in District 3. So about every box can be checked as positive that Kendall’s got accomplished in his term, and we’re very proud of him.”

Villwock calls Culp a great servant leader who “gets involved in counties. He surfaces new leaders. He’s been director for 12 years with distinction. He’s also very passionately involved with politics. The politics of agriculture is his thrust that he wants to make sure in the statehouse the people understand what our needs are in agriculture, and he works hard to get those folks elected.”

Is politics in his future? Kendall Culp says now, other than the new soybean position, it’s all about the farm.

“Actually my son’s coming back home to farm and I need to be at home and get him mentored and kind of get that started, so I need to take care of home first and the family. But sure I’m always looking for opportunities. Farm Bureau has been very good to me and for me and maybe there will be other opportunities with Farm Bureau, or maybe it will be somewhere else, but public policy has always been an interest to me.”
