Despite Crop Challenges from Drought, Farmers Shouldn’t Face Challenges from Buyers

The U.S. soy checkoff funds an annual quality survey to measure the protein and oil content of the crop – then publicizes the results to help ensure demand remains high for U.S. soy. The survey is based on samples from participating U.S. soybean farmers. Survey Coordinator Seth Naeve says there’s still time for soybean farmers to participate – emphasizing the need for as many samples as possible to ensure there’s a comprehensive look at the quality of this year’s crop. Results are shared with potential buyers in Asia and other markets in late November to promote the high quality of U.S. soy. To submit samples – farmers can mail them with the postage-paid mailing envelope enclosed in the kits sent out. Samples need to be submitted by October 20th to make sure they are included in results. Once the analysis is completed – farmers will receive the results of their own samples. If you did not receive a sample kit – but would like one – email Naeve at naeve002@umn.edu or call him at 612-625-4298.
