CCSI Offering 4 Workshops on Soil Health and Cover Crops

Indiana’s Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative will host four workshops this month focused on cover crops and advanced cropping systems for farmers and crop advisors – all of which will include sessions by Purdue Extension specialists Two of the workshops, titled “Advanced Cover Crops for Farmers and Advisors,” will focus on cover crop strategies, pest management, cover crop species and termination. The other two workshops, titled “Advanced Cropping Systems for Farmers and Advisors” will cover soil characteristics, nutrient management and tillage, soil health tests, equipment and management decisions for cover crops.

Purdue presenters are Eileen Kladivko, Purdue Extension agronomist and CCSI research team leader, and John Obermeyer, Purdue Extension entomologist. Additional presenters are Barry Fisher, state soil health specialist for the Indiana Natural Resources Conservation Service and CCSI leader; Hans Kok and Dan Towery, CCSI coordinators; Dan Childs, weed management technology development representative for Monsanto; and Larry Huffmeyer, agronomist for Winfield Solutions.

* March 12: Advanced Cover Crops, Huffmeyer Farms, 4937 W. County Road 650 N., Osgood.

* March 18: Advanced Cropping Systems, Jasper County Fairgrounds, 2671 West Clark St., Rensselaer.

* March 20: Advanced Cropping Systems, Bowman Farms, 7382 E. 800 S., Lafontaine.
