API Certifies High Oleic Soybean Motor Oil

The American Petroleum Institute recently certified Biosynthetic Technologies for its motor oil containing 35-percent of estolide – a synthetic ester made from high oleic soybean oil. The certification verifies the motor oil formulated with the biosynthetic ester passed rigorous standards required for motor oil use. Biosynthetic Technologies’ Greg Blake says high oleic soybean based synthetic oils offer superior performance and benefits to the existing synthetic market – and the company expects that market to continue. This certification also means this product could be available within the next two-years to farmers and other consumers. United Soybean Board Oil Action Team Chair Lewis Bainbridge says this is a great example of the innovation brought forward by high oleic soybeans – which produce oil that delivers higher stability in high-heat situations. This makes the soybean oil more attractive to premium industrial users – and could mean big demand for U.S. soybeans.
