Purdue Extension Sets New Dates for Succession Workshops

Purdue Extension has announced two new dates for its series of two-day workshops on farm-ownership succession planning. The revised schedule for “Planning for the Transfer of Farm Ownership and Management” is:

* Jan. 13-14, The 201 Building, 201 N. Main St., Rushville.

* Jan. 27-28, Noble County Extension office, 2090 N. state Route 9, Albion

* Feb. 24-25, Huntingburg Event Center, 200 E. 14th St., Huntingburg (new date).

* March 10-11, White County Extension office, 12 N. 25 E, Reynolds (new date).

Workshop speakers include Purdue Extension educators and specialists, as well as agribusiness professionals.

Ed Farris, Purdue Extension educator in Huntington County, said the team planned the workshops to help families with farm transfer decisions. “Only 28 percent of family businesses have named a successor. Our team understands the complex and challenging decisions with completing a plan for succession of a family farm,” Farris said.

Workshop topics include:

* Adding a family member to a farm ownership group.

* Multiple-entity structures.

* Risk management tools.

* Strategies for asset transfer.

* Management transfer plans.

Day 1 of each workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes lunch. Day 2 includes a complimentary one-hour farm family meeting with a member of Purdue Extension’s Farm Succession Planning Team.

Cost is $150 for the first four family members and $15 for each additional member.
