DuPont Pioneer Harvest Update 10/19/15

David Cosgray, DuPont Pioneer agronomist in NW Indiana, says things are ever further along in his area, “I would say soybeans are approaching 90% and corn about 60%.” He added that crop moisture levels have been falling for the past few weeks, “We have corn in the 14% to 17% range and soybeans in the 9% to 13% range.” This quick dry down helped even out field conditions and made for easier harvest and storage. Cosgray says the harvest will be complete in the next few weeks, “In my area, a lot of guys will be finished in the next 10 days if the weather holds.”

After harvest comes the analysis and the planning for next year. Cosgray says, given the kind of weather we had this year, getting good data on your hybrids may be difficult, “Given the amount of water we had on some farms, it is going to be hard to get good data from our fields. I recommend guys look at hybrid performance across a wide area, perhaps even several states. Look for consistent performance across a wide variety of conditions.”
