Retiring Villwock Reflects on Indiana Farm Bureau Career

Villwock reflects on FB career

Transition to new leadership at Indiana Farm Bureau has taken shape this week. It started in the spring when President Don Villwock announced his retirement and the announcement soon after that he was running for president of American Farm Bureau Federation. At his final address to membership Monday night, Villwock reflected on 35 years at Farm Bureau and 14 as president.

“We have driven over half a million miles,” he said. “We have won some and we have lost a few, but I can proudly say we give it a hundred percent and then some all along the way. Now it’s time to move forward and hand over the reins to new leadership and fresh ideas. When Joyce and I made this decision to retire last spring it was with a good feeling. Your Indiana Farm Bureau insurance company and your Indiana Farm Bureau membership organization are in great hands and I can leave knowing you will be well served.”

He also talked about many successes over the years, including one in particular.

“One of my proudest moments during my tenure as your president, is championing our successful effort of Indiana’s Family of Farmers to the AFBF board and to president Stallman. I truly believe we were the impetus for the founding of the national advocacy group called U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance.”

Villwock thanked many during his address, including state ag leaders and his staff and board of directors, but he reserved a final thank you for all of the Indiana Farm Bureau members.

“You know it’s difficult for me to think about not being with you or seeing all of you on a regular basis. Many of you have touched my heart of these past 14 years as your president and this wonderful 35 year journey with Farm Bureau. I do hope our paths cross many times again.”
