Farm Mom nominations due
If you think you know the best farm mom in America, then nominate her for Monsanto’s America’s Farmers Mom of the Year. The nomination deadline is Friday. The program head, Tracy Mueller, says the program has done a great job since its 2010 inception of recognizing farm moms’ very significant contributions.
“These women do so much, they wear so many hats, they are selfless and always put people before themselves, and this is just a way to celebrate them and recognize them for all their hard work,” she said. “I believe this has actually done that for all of these women for the past eight years. If you talk to them they’re so humble and so appreciative, and they do get celebrated.”
Mueller says they’ve noticed through the years how involved in their communities the nominees are. So, this year some of the prize money will be going into local not for profit organizations.
“We partner with American Agri-Women. They read through every nomination and help us narrow it down to the five regional winners. Those winners will each receive $3,000 for themselves and then $2,000 to donate to a non-profit in their community. Then we’ll post the nominations of those five women on www.AmericasFarmers.com and the public will vote for a national winner who receives an additional $2,000. She can donate that to the same non-profit or a different one if she wants to spread it out a bit.”
Again, the nomination deadline is this Friday, March 31. Since it began in 2010, the program has recognized 35 farm moms for their important and continually evolving role in American farms, families, rural communities and the agriculture industry.
