‘You’re Going to Have Some Windows to Work With’ for Planting

HAT Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin says the planting forecast is largely dry. There will be a few periods of moisture throughout the state, and it’s possible that some of it comes on race day.

“We see a little bit of moisture trying to work its way up from the south, and it could start as early as Saturday mid to late morning. It also could end up being mostly cloud cover. The moisture that’s available is rather weak. I think we’re going to be seeing hit and miss scattered showers from Saturday, late afternoon, through Sunday across Indiana, but I also think the coverage is only going to be about 40 percent.”

Martin says Memorial Day, Monday, through Thursday should provide dry conditions, but rain showers could move through Thursday night and Friday.

“After we get done with a very wet finish to next week and a start to June, I think we have a dry window trying to develop for the week of June 4th. There will be one minor front that tries to sweep through around the 6th that can give us a quarter to half an inch of rain. Long story short, you are going to have some windows to work with here.”
