Warm Week Leads to Crop Maturity

Warm, humid weather last week helped pushed crops towards maturity, according to Greg Matli, State Statistician, USDA, NASS, Indiana Field Office. Temperatures were well above normal across the entire State. Rainfall was intermittent and spotty with some areas receiving more than a half inch while other areas were devoid of precipitation. The average temperature for the week was 77.2 degrees, 5.2 degrees above normal for the State. The amount of rainfall varied from nothing to 1.27 inches during the week. The statewide average for precipitation was 0.36 inches. There were 5.3 days available for fieldwork for the week ending September 2.

The above-average temperatures last week pushed corn and soybeans closer to harvest. Corn and soybean conditions increased slightly from last week. Seed corn, hay, processing tomato, and silage harvests continued. Producers were readying equipment for the upcoming corn and soybean harvests.
