Purdue Farm Management Tour Underway in Southern Indiana; Master Farmers Awarded

The Purdue Farm Management Tour made its first stop Thursday at Koester Brothers Farms in Wadesville, Indiana in Posey County. Koester Brothers Farms is a diversified grain and dairy operation that grows corn, soybeans, wheat, some alfalfa, and milks around 200 cows with robotic milkers.

One of the four Koester Brothers, Dale, spoke with Hoosier Ag Today. In the interview below, Koester discusses the decision to adopt the robotic milkers in 2012 and some of the sustainability efforts they’ve employed on the farm.

The Purdue Farm Management Tour continues Friday with stops at Kron Farms in Evansville and Seib Farms in Poseyville.

In conjunction with the Purdue Farm Management Tour, the Master Farmer awards were presented Thursday evening. The Master Farmer award is sponsored by Indiana Prairie Farmer and the Purdue University College of Agriculture.

The 2021 Indiana Master Farmers are Harry Egnew, Linton; Randy and Joyce Kron, Evansville; Cameron and Cara Mills, Walton; and Craig and Kim Williams, Oaktown. Honorary Master Farmers are Ted and Jean Merrell and Terry and Nieta Merrell, Kokomo.
