A Big Harvest Window Opens Next Week Across Indiana

It’s been a soggy week and we’re not done with the moisture quite yet. In the Seed Genetics Direct Harvest Weather Forecast with Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin, he says more rain is on the way this weekend.

“A frontal boundary comes across the area as we move through the overnight Friday into Saturday mid-day that doesn’t have a lot of moisture with it. I’m looking at anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch to 4 tenths maximum. I guess you could twist my arm into half an inch in a few spots, but here’s the thing- if it’s raining, or at least the threat of rain is in the area, we’re not doing any drying at all. After seeing rains over the course of this past week, anywhere from a half an inch all the way up to 3 inches or more, we definitely need the drying and none of that is happening for your Saturday. I do think the rain is done by early afternoon and we should start to clear out as we move through the overnight.”

Martin’s forecast does call for a big fieldwork window next week.

“I am rain free in my forecast for Sunday right on through next Saturday at least. I’m actually thinking of extending that even further. I think we could go into the 3rd and 4th of October with no significant moisture. I am watching a system in the Plains around the 2nd into the 3rd. If it goes straight east, we could see some rain later the 4th into the 5th, but at this point I think there’s equal chances of it moving southeast.”
