Purdue Cuts (Chews) Ribbon on New Veterinary Hospital

A $108 million building project on Purdue’s campus has been completed. The David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex was dedicated at a ceremony last Friday.

“This new complex we’re dedicating truly sets the standard for an advanced veterinary medical hospital facility,” says Willie Reed, dean of the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine.

In comments made at the dedication, Purdue President Mitch Daniels said the vet hospital was at risk of losing its accreditation at some point without the new facilities. Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Bruce Kettler is glad the state pitched in $73 million toward the project.

“It’s critical for those of us on the food production side, for the food animal side, to be able to make sure that we’re turning out well-trained, competent veterinarians. In fact, we’ve got a shortage of them in Indiana, and we want to make sure that we’re keeping them here if at all possible.”

The 162,500-square-foot complex includes an addition to the existing small animal hospital facilities in Lynn Hall, a new equine hospital, and a new farm animal hospital, replacing facilities in the existing large animal hospital.
