Interesting food options are all around with the various Indiana fairs and festivals, and after the Indiana State Fair concludes, you have the option of the Indiana Bacon Festival in Delphi, located in Carroll County, not far from Lafayette.
Coordinator of this 9th annual event, Julia Leahy, says it’s a natural celebration in a county known for pork production and hoping to be the bacon capitol of the world.
“It started a few years ago celebrating bacon because let’s face it, Indiana Kitchen bacon, we think is the best bacon and they are located right here in Delphi. So, what better way to celebrate Indiana agriculture, our largest employer and you know you can’t go wrong with bacon.”
If you love bacon, there is plenty of that but much more too.
“We always say it’s bacon, bands, and brew, and this year we’re also saying bourbon and BBQ, so it’s a lot of B’s and so it’s way more than just bacon. I was looking at the food list and we’ve got about 50 different food items and almost every single one of them has bacon, so you will not leave here hungry.”
While you’re enjoying the bacon festival take a slow walk or slow ride over to the main stage for the headline band.
“We are bringing in Foghat,” Leahy told HAT. “Legendary Foghat is going to be here. We’re super excited to have them this year. And that gets you all the music. Indiana Kitchen is going to have a lot of delicious samples, so you’ll get to try their bacon and some different recipes, and then you can have free parking up at the Delphi High School. Take a shuttle downtown. So that’s easy to get around, we think.”
Other bands performing are Smells Like Nirvana, Cook & Belle, and Group Therapy. Music begins at 3 pm.
Get discounted tickets for $8 at indianabaconfestival.com before midnight on August 26th.
The festival is Saturday August 27th starting at 3:00 pm and includes Harley the Hog, a mechanical pig. There is also a family fun zone and bacon eating contest.
