Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin is serving up some excellent weather conditions for harvest this weekend in his Seed Genetics Direct Harvest Weather Forecast. Order from Seed Genetics Direct and save $4 per unit of soybeans, $10 per unit of corn, and 11% more when you pay by Nov. 10!
Martin says Friday through Monday, “We have sunny conditions, we have temperatures that are 10 to 20 degrees above normal, and we’re looking at monster evaporation rates. Which in some areas of northern Indiana where we dealt with three days of lake effect clouds and precipitation this past week, they need some evaporation to be able to get back into the fields
But that doesn’t mean we won’t have some hiccups going forward. A frontal complex will be moving through Monday night into Tuesday across Indiana.

“Moisture may start in Northwest Indiana late Monday afternoon. Right now, we’re looking at a quarter to 1 inch of rain with coverage at around 90% of the state as this front comes through. It’s done by early to mid-morning on Tuesday. Coverage is going to be fairly equal north to south as this front is coming through.”
Following that moisture, Martin calls for sunshine returning by Tuesday afternoon with cooler temperatures than what we’re seeing this weekend but not cold by any stretch of the imagination. That should be the case through Thursday.

“Good evaporation in there as well. The question is how can we get back into the field after the rains early in the week Monday night? That really depends on whether you were at the high end or the low end of the rain range. We have another weather system that’s going to show up as we move through Friday, Saturday, and early Sunday. That one has quarter to 1 inch potential as well and could kick us out of the fields a little bit longer term.”
