A virtual workshop for women in agriculture will be offered in June. Annie’s Project is a six-week course covering topics like land leases, marketing, and ag tech.
Emily Kresca is with Purdue Extension in Kosciusko County and serves as one of the coordinators for the workshop. She says that women from across Indiana and other states connect through Annie’s Project.
“Annie’s Project is a great way for specifically women in ag, women on the farm, to come together to ask questions, share with one another, and connecting with the presenters and fellow participants.”
Kresca says participants have a variety of reasons for attending. Some are beginning farmers.
“Last June, when we did this virtual Annie’s Project, we had some people that were just getting started in doing their own type of agriculture, whether that be small ruminants, small animals or whatever you’re getting into, anyone that has any interest in the farm business, starting up a farm business or learning more about how they can help out on their family farm, I think this would be beneficial.”
One participant was involved on the farm, but her husband passed away unexpectedly.
“So she was to take over the farm, so she took this class to really learn about all the things that go into running the farm operation.”
But it’s not only farmers who benefit from Annie’s Project.
“We had one person that was a veterinarian. She was a large animal vet so she worked with producers, so she took this class to learn about this farm business structure, all the things that go into it so she can help out her own clients.”
Registration is $65 and is due May 26.
