82 Percent of Corn, 94 Percent of Soybeans Harvested in Indiana

A warmer than normal, dry week allowed farmers to make good harvest progress.

According to the latest USDA Crop Progress Report, 82 percent of Indiana’s corn for grain and 94 percent of the state’s soybeans have been harvested.

This week’s harvest percentages represent an increase last week from 68 percent for Indiana’s corn and 87 percent for soybeans.

Indiana’s five-year average for corn harvest is 85 percent, while the five-year average for soybeans is 91 percent.

92 percent of the state’s winter wheat crop has been planted with 75 percent of that crop already emerging.

“Many farmers were done, or nearly done, with harvest. Elevators in some areas of the State closed early due because their capacity to dry corn to a storable moisture level was unable to keep pace with the influx of corn that needed to be dried,” according to Nathanial Warenski, State Statistician with the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Indiana Field Office.
