New Product (to the Midwest) to Help With Tar Spot, White Mold

Farmers are still going through the process of planning for the upcoming growing season, evaluating products from a number of companies to see what might provide the best return on investment.

Nate Kemp, technical agronomist for Rovensa Next, says they have a product called Prev-Am that you should consider. It’s a 3-in-1 insecticide, miticide, and fungicide that you maybe haven’t heard of before, but it isn’t necessarily new.

“It’s actually been on the market here in the United States since about 2004, but it’s a product that is new to the Midwest. We’ve primarily used it in high value crops in the past, and we think it has a real nice fit in in corn and soybean for people.”

Kemp explains that Prev-Am is formulated using their technology OROWET®, which is cold-pressed orange oil.

“We basically found it accidentally in South Africa many years ago. What we figured out is it’s a very good insecticide and miticide and fungicide and it also has adjuvant properties. So, in the United States, it’s sort of developed as an adjuvant and it has sort of developed as a pesticide.”

Kemp says they’ve found that Prev-Am is a really good tank-mix partner.

“It helps with things like tar spot, it helps with things like gray leaf spot in corn. You mix it with your fungicide and you kind of have another mode of action in the tank. It also has really good activity on diseases like white mold in soybeans.”

Kemp adds that Prev-Am is one of the few products that actually has curative activity on white mold.
