David Howell of Middletown, Ind. was elected to the Board of Directors for the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) during its recent meeting in Vancouver, Washington.
Howell, who is also vice president of the Indiana Corn Marketing Council, will serve as an At-Large Director on the USGC board for two years. Before being elected to the USGC Board, Howell served as team leader for USGC’s Asia Advisory Team.
“Even though we are experiencing a historic drought that has affected our current corn crop, I am convinced that in normal weather years American farmers have the capacity – with the huge advances in crop production – to grow enough corn for the needs of our domestic markets, including livestock, ethanol and others, while continuing to meet the requirements of our international customers who have come to depend on us,” said Howell, who has served as a delegate at USGC on behalf of Indiana Corn Marketing Council for the last five years. “This means the work USGC does in countries around the world remains critical to corn farmers here in Indiana – and beyond – as we continue to develop and maintain international trade.”
The U.S. Grains Council works to develop export markets for U.S. barley, corn, grain sorghum and related products, including dried distillers grains (DDGs). The Board of Directors comprised of individuals from its member organizations who represent the corn, barley and sorghum sectors and agribusiness, oversee the Council’s programs.
