Indiana Pork is hosting a number of regional meetings across the state in the coming weeks, and Hoosier pork producers are invited to attend and share what issues they’re dealing with. Indiana Pork staff will have updates but Jeanette Merritt stresses producer input is important.
“The regional meetings give us an opportunity to go out to our pork producers around the state and hear from them, to see what issues are directly affecting them and see if there are things we can take back to our office to get help,” she told HAT. “They also give us the opportunity to update our producers on how checkoff dollars are being spent and inform them of some of the issues going on in the Indiana state legislature and also on behalf of the National Pork Board as well.”
Merritt, Director of Checkoff Programs for Indiana Pork, and Ben Wicker will conduct the lunch meetings. Wicker is the director of the producer information programs.
“Ben is great,” she said. “He really is the one who is out doing farm business, working with our producers and helping them as they are looking at permitting barns around the state and dealing with county councils and zoning issues. Ben is a wealth of information and he can provide all of those types of updates but then also give them the legislative overview.”
Lunch is included and walk-ins are welcome at the meetings. RSVP to Ben Wicker at bwicker@inpork.org or by calling 317-872-7500.
