We still have a ways to go in terms of planting progress here in Indiana. Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin says if you look really hard you might be able to find some positives in his longer-term forecast.
“One of those positives may be a slightly bigger window of dryness in between rain events. Temperatures may be warmer as well. But the negative, still, is we’ve got too much rain.”
Martin has windows in between weather systems stretching to about 3 days.
“We should be mostly dry for the start of this weekend on Saturday and we get good sunshine on Sunday. We are dry all day Monday with good evaporation. However, our next weather system comes Tuesday, so we’re limited to three days of dryness there. After the Tuesday/Wednesday system, we are dry for Thursday and most of Friday. In Northern Indiana, we extend the drying through Saturday and early Sunday.”
But in southern Indiana, hit-and-miss moisture is expected Friday night into Saturday.
“We have another weather system sitting out to the west of us right at the end of the 10-day forecast window,” Martin continues. “That means we probably don’t get through Memorial Day without seeing a little bit of moisture here and there. But I want to also point out- this is another positive- that systems are starting to slowly but surely ease back on the total available moisture as they come through. For example, that Memorial Day system, if it comes together, probably only gives us anywhere from a tenth to half an inch.”
