345. Stumbling into agbioscience, forging your path in college + what young talent wants with Field Atlas’ Cameron Weber

Making a difference in the world – it’s nearly a universal desire for all of us. But where do you fit in? And how best to you make an impact? One college student is making that impact and blazing their trail. Cameron Weber, a biology major at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a Field Atlas Ambassador, joins us today to talk their path to agbioscience, including:

Talking to two kinds of people – those that grew up on the farm and those who stumbled into it and are happy they did. Cameron is in the latter
Wanting to originally be a doctor until getting connected with Field Atlas at a career fair and learning more about agbioscience.

The Hoosier Ag This Week Podcast for 2/1/25

On this edition of Hoosier Ag This Week: A positive test for the Bird Flu virus at the Rose Acre Farm egg production facility near Seymour made national headlines this past week. The facility, which housed 2.8 million birds, will be shut down as the flock will be depopulated. C.J. Miller reports that the eggs and poultry products that are on your grocery store shelves are still safe for you and your family to eat.

Eric Pfeiffer also chats with State Rep. Kendell Culp, who has introduced 15 bills that relate to agriculture. The legislation includes property taxes and tax credits for retiring farmers that Governor Mike Braun mentioned in his State of the State Address on Wednesday evening.

And a top prize of $100,000 is what the folks from an Indiana-based agtech company brought home after winning the Ag Innovation Challenge during Farm Bureau’s annual convention earlier this week in San Antonio! You’ll hear from the Co-founder and CEO of Gripp and he talks about his company and the services they provide to farmers.

Rep. Culp on Property Taxes, Tax Credits for Retiring Farmers, & More

Jasper Co. farmer, District 16 State Representative, and Indiana Farm Bureau Vice President Kendell Culp joins us to discuss many of his 15 different pieces of legislation he's authored this year at the Statehouse that relate to agriculture. The legislation includes property taxes and tax credits for retiring farmers that Governor Braun mentioned in his State of the State Address Wednesday evening.

We also discuss the potential for tax exemptions on grain storage units on the Indiana Ag Policy Podcast presented by the Indiana Soybean Alliance and Indiana Corn Growers Association. The podcast is also supported by Indiana Farm Bureau.
