Speaker of the House John Boehner assured House Ag Committee Chair Frank Lucas the farm bill is still part of the year-end big picture for Republicans. Lucas says Boehner gave him the impression it was one of the issues that will be addressed – and he assumes regarding sequestration and taxes. Clearly – Lucas says the 35-billion dollars of savings in the House package has gotten somebody’s attention.
Some way – somehow – Senate Ag Ranking Member Pat Roberts says – a five-year farm bill has to get passed because farmers, ranchers and lenders are in financial purgatory right now. House Ag Ranking Member Collin Peterson says he is absolutely – 110-percent against a one-year extension and will do everything in his power to stop it.
