Agreement Between Monsanto & Bayer Creates Options for Farmers

Bayer CropScience and Monsanto Company have entered into a series of licensing agreements for next-generation and enabling technologies in the field of plant biotechnology. Bayer CropScience will receive royalty-bearing licenses to Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield and Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Xtend technology in soybeans in the U.S. and Canada – as well as to Intacta RR2 Pro in soybeans in Brazil. Monsanto is also granting Bayer CropScience stacking-rights under certain conditions. Monsanto will get licenses to evaluate enabling technologies for corn rootworm control and herbicide tolerance as options for the company’s future pipeline development work.

Rudiger Scheitza of Bayer CropScience says with the combined technologies from both companies – they will be able to offer farmers additional pest control options and an all-inclusive weed resistance package in soybeans. Monsanto’s Brett Begemann says the agreement will offer increased benefits for farmers and foster continued choice and innovation in the industry.
