Another Good Indiana Harvest Window Ahead
This week has been back to the soybean and corn fields for farmers affected by rain delays, and the new harvest forecast says more good harvest conditions are ahead during most of the next ten days. But Hoosier Ag Today meteorologist Ryan Martin says there is one area of concern for a rain-out.
“That goes into this weekend,” Martin explains. “I think we have to be aware of a chance of a little bit of moisture down over far southern Indiana overnight Friday night into Saturday. But, I’m seeing Saturday night into Sunday now more of a problem for the northern third of the state, and I might have to even expand that to the northern half. Moisture totals don’t look to be all that severe, but there is a chance of some moisture.”
Cooler air has been the rule the last week, and it could get even cooler, even to the extent of moisture turning white, as in snow.
“Cold air coming in with this event also means we could see moisture start as liquid and if it holds into the overnight, Saturday night through early Sunday morning, we could see some sloppy wet snowflakes mixing in,” Martin says. “Moisture equivalencies right now, I think a quarter of an inch or less, so it’s not going to really harvest, but it also means we probably will not see much action through Sunday.”
Then next week, Monday through Saturday, drier weather returns.
“I think Monday through Friday I can almost guarantee a dry forecast window. The next round of precipitation though, still up in the air. Some models bringing it already in on Saturday, some waiting until Sunday, and both major models are saying we’re looking at anywhere from a quarter to one inch of moisture out of that. It will be rain with temperatures as we turn the calendar into November going slightly above normal.”
