Farmers may have a tougher time getting ahold of glyphosate this spring after Bayer declares a force majeure event.
According to a letter from Bayer, the company cites an issue from a mechanical failure at a key raw material supplier “which leads to a substantial reduction in production rates.” The company estimates repairs will take three months.
Force majeure is defined as an uncontrollable event that keeps a party from fulfilling a contract.
In a statement, Bayer says its “ability to supply its customers with glyphosate or glyphosate-containing products as agreed upon in certain agreements or under accepted purchase orders has been impacted. We apologize for this impact, but hope you appreciate this situation is beyond our reasonable control.”
