Cash Grain Marketing Made Easy

Craig Mouchka,

Cash grain marketing just got a whole lot easier with a new, free, on-line program. Cash grain marketing used to involve calling a few local elevators and asking what their price was.  Now a new, on-line tool not only lets you compare local cash prices but helps you figure out which is the best deal. Growers Edge Best Grain price tool tells you which local bid makes the most profit for your operation. Craig Mouchka, President of Growers Edge, says once a farming operation is identified by entering a zip code, “We pull in every buying location in the area and what they are offering on the spot and forward contract market, then we net out a farmers trucking and storage costs based on what they tell us and quickly tell them what their best option is to sell grain.”  This is all done on-line in a matter of minutes.

Mouchka  told HAT the program does not stop there. It keeps track of your grain sales and helps you manage your marketing plan, “The program can keep track of how much profit is made on each sale and can recommend if future selling opportunities are a good deal or not.”   This allows growers to do a lot of “what if” marketing.  Mouchka added that the Growers Edge tool can assess local market conditions and recommend if “today is a good day to sell.”

While the program does require a producer to input information, the management tools it provides you are all free.  Mouchka said the real power is the fact that the program uses local information to make recommendations, “Instead of getting a lot of aggregate data, they are getting information and solutions based on their market area and farming operation.”  Hoosier Ag Today is partnering with Growers Edge to bring this tool to the HAT web site.  Watch for details coming soon to Hoosier Ag Today.com.
