Record crowds at the 2013 Indiana State Fair also resulted in record sales at the American Dairy Association of Indiana’s iconic State Fair Dairy Bar. Sales of grilled cheese sandwiches, milkshakes, ice cream, ice cold milk, and other dairy delights tallied nearly $25,000 over 2012 totals, according to Deb Osza, general manager of the Hoosier dairy association. “The weather was absolutely perfect for State Fair,” she said. “Very little rain, cooler temperatures, low humidity. People came ready to have a good time, ride the rides, view the exhibits, see the animals, learn more about Indiana agriculture, and, of course, enjoy their favorite foods and beverages. “From the tremendous increase in our sales, many of those visitors decided to make a stop at the Dairy Bar part of their day at the fair.”
By the numbers, the Dairy Bar sold:
• 59,372 signature milkshakes (chocolate remained the solid favorite at 29,680).
• 49,660 grilled cheese sandwiches (favored at 12,595 was American cheese, while the brand new Blue Moo, featuring a tangy layer of bleu cheese combined with American, sold very well for a first-year item at 6527).
