The release of the USDA’s Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) on Enlist corn and soybeans today brings American farmers one step closer to obtaining a critical tool to manage resistant weeds. The only remaining action before regulatory approval of the Enlist traits is USDA issuance of a Record of Decision, which is expected in the near future.

Damon Palmer, U.S. commercial leader for the Enlist system, says the USDA produced an extensive Final EIS with a well-supported environmental evaluation, “We appreciate the significant work by the USDA to evaluate Enlist corn and soybeans. The Final EIS is an important milestone, and brings us one step closer to providing American farmers with a much-needed solution for herbicide-resistant weeds.”

The FEIS indicates that Enlist crops will help farmers manage resistant weeds without having to return to aggressive tillage practices, which would adversely impact soil, air and water quality.
Scientists and doctors representing a range of disciplines have also voiced support for Enlist on its technical merits and its health and environmental profile. Regulatory authorities outside the U.S. have already approved components of the Enlist system, including Canada, Australia, Japan, Colombia, Taiwan, Mexico and others.

Pending regulatory approvals, Dow AgroSciences expects to launch Enlist corn and Enlist soybeans in 2015, with Enlist E3™ [E three] soybeans and Enlist™ cotton to follow.
