Bring Change to Mind (BC2M), co-founded by actress Glenn Close in 2010, is a national nonprofit dedicated to creating dialogue around mental health, and to raising awareness, understanding and empathy. In 2015, BC2M launched a student-led initiative at the high school level aimed at increasing awareness and education about mental health in a supportive environment. Their evidence-based, youth-led club program gives tweens and teens a platform to share their voices, empowers students to educate one another, and creates a culture of peer support within schools. Currently, they work with over 540 high schools, in 43 states and empowering 12,000+ students each school year. Indiana, one of BC2M’s largest regions, has a mighty community of 90 high schools and 40 middle schools across the entire state.

When she’s not working or going to school, she loves enjoying a cup of coffee with a friend or a walk with her 2 y/o pup, Poppy.

323. Insignum AgTech’s Kyle Mohler on early disease detection in crops + the value of farmer feedback

It’s estimated that disease could cost the global food system up to 20% of production and one scientist is turning to the plant itself to change that. Dr. Kyle Mohler joins us today to talk his recent win at the Rally In-Prize Pitch Competition, his work to detect disease in plants much earlier and the Insignum AgTech’s startup journey in 2024.

Insignum AgTech’s traits allow for the farmer to detect when disease is coming – nearly a week before you would actually see symptoms – an opportunity for farmers to treat with precision and before things are past a point of no return. Kyle gets into the farmer feedback surrounding the technology in action and how it serves as a decision-making tool for their operations.

Fresh off a win at the Rally Innovation Conference In-Prize Pitch Competition, Kyle talks scaling via test plots across the Midwest. He also talks great milestones for Insignum AgTech in 2024 and where they hope to be headed in the future.

The HAT Soil Health Podcast- New Farms, New Fields

There are plenty of things on the to-do list when we pick up a new farm or field. What do we do first? Do we dive right in and do field work? Or do we take a step back and take some soil tests?

On this episode, we're talking about incorporating new fields and farms into a soil health system. Our guests are Muncie farmer Joe Hamilton and Connersville farmer Andrew Bernzott. Both raise corn and soybeans under a 100% no-till and cover crop system, and Andrew does 100% one-acre grid soil sampling.

Joe and Andrew share their stories and their strategies for bringing a new field or farm into their existing soil health systems, from soil testing to bringing nutrient and organic matter levels back into balance. They also talk about strategies for keeping a living root in the soil, short-term and long-term goals, and keeping dollars on the field.

This episode of the HAT Soil Health Podcast is brought to you by the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative. You can learn more about their efforts and see a schedule of events at ccsin.org.
