Ethanol Groups Respond to API

Following the American Petroleum Institute’s suggestion that the Renewable Fuel Standard isn’t working and should be fixed – ethanol groups fired back. Advanced Ethanol Coalition Executive Director Brooke Coleman says API has it backwards. Coleman says the problem is our dependence on foreign oil – which in turn costs consumers billions of dollars and comes at a great cost to the economy and the environment. Coleman adds that by driving American-made fuel into the marketplace – the RFS is part of the solution. In fact – Renewable Fuels Association Vice President for Research and Analysis Geoff Cooper says the RSF has been the most successful energy initiative ever undertaken to directly replace fossil fuels in the gas tanks of Americans.

According to the AEC’s Coleman – API is concerned about the upward trajectory of the U.S. renewable fuels industry and is trying to spin this success as a failure. Speaking on the success of the RFS – Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis says first generation ethanol is exceeding its goals and next generation fuels like advanced and cellulosic are progressing. He says pulling the plug on the RFS would be the wrong move at the wrong time for the wrong reasons.
