Ethanol Production Falls from Record High

According to EIA data, ethanol production averaged 956,000 barrels per day (b/d)—or 40.15 million gallons daily. That is down 52,000 b/d from the previous week’s record-breaking output rate. The four-week average for ethanol production stood at 980,000 b/d for an annualized rate of 15.02 billion gallons. Stocks of ethanol stood at 20.0 million barrels. That is a 1.9% increase from last week and the highest since June. Imports of ethanol were 36,000 b/d, up from zero the past two weeks, but the third time in the last five weeks that imports have registered.

Gasoline demand for the week averaged 389.8 million gallons (9.281 million barrels) daily. Refiner/blender input of ethanol averaged 876,000 b/d. Expressed as a percentage of daily gasoline demand, daily ethanol production was 10.30%, down substantially from last week’s 41-week high.
