Farm Credit System Entities Donate Funds to Tornado Disaster Relief

In the wake of the recent tornadoes that left a devastating path of destruction across several Midwest states, three Farm Credit entities are donating $45,000 to the American Red Cross to assist with their disaster relief. Farm Credit Services of Mid-America, CoBank and AgriBank are providing funds to support relief efforts in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. Several employees are also volunteering their time and talent to assist with the cleanup and rebuilding efforts. “The damage is extensive – there are towns that are now completely gone,” said Hollie Bunn, regional vice president for Farm Credit based in southern Indiana. “Many of the areas affected are small rural towns, the places where our customers and employees live and work. We feel compelled to support our communities in any way we can.”

“It’s important in times like this to pitch in and help our neighbors,” said Derrick Waggoner, CoBank regional vice president based in Louisville.  “The devastation from the tornadoes is difficult to bear but working together to help our communities is one of our core principles as a cooperative.”  AgriBank CEO Bill York stated, “We are saddened by the path of destruction that was left in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. AgriBank is privileged to support those that are suffering through this adversity. We remain dedicated to serving rural America through the Associations in the AgriBank District.  Our steadfast commitment remains the same – to collaboratively build and maintain a strong, sound organization that will provide shelter through any storm, whether it is a storm produced by Mother Nature or the financial markets.” Regarding Farm Credit’s response to the tornadoes and their aftermath, Bunn said, “This has been an extremely unfortunate situation, but we’re pleased to be able to give something back to the rural communities and customers who have stood by us over the years.”
