Farmers Day at Indiana State Fair

Wednesday is Farmers Day at the Indiana State Fair and it kicks off with the annual Indiana Farm Bureau pancake breakfast to benefit Indiana FFA. The $3 breakfast is from 7:30-9:30 AM on Main Street in front of the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand.

At 10 AM Lt. Governor Becky Skillman will host the Celebration of Agriculture at the Normandy Barn. That event includes the presentation of the 2012 AgriVision Award honoring a Hoosier who has displayed a strong commitment to and distinguished vision for Indiana agriculture. The Purdue Women in Agriculture Awards is now a part of the Celebration of Agriculture ceremony. The awards recognize women who have provided leadership and made positive contributions to Indiana agriculture through their involvement in an Indiana agricultural enterprise, agribusiness, farm or commodity organization.

The winners of the 2012 Indiana State Department of Agriculture Photo Contest will be recognized, and Indiana’s first lady will be back at the fair Wednesday. Sheri Daniels starts her day helping serve pancakes and then she will participate in the cow milking competition at 11:30 AM in the Livestock Nursery.

At 3:00 in the afternoon an agriculture debate will feature the candidates for Indiana Lt. Governor, one of whom will become the state’s next Secretary of Agriculture. That debate can be heard at this website shortly after its conclusion.
