Four Hoosier Corn Farmers Seeking Re-election to Indiana Corn Marketing Council

Voting for the Indiana Corn Marketing Council’s (ICMC) annual election opens Monday, August 18 and runs through Friday, August 22, 2014 at county Purdue Cooperative Extension Service offices across the state.

All voters must visit the Cooperative Extension office to cast their vote. Absentee ballots can be downloaded from ICMC website and must be returned by August 11.

The ICMC board manages state corn checkoff investments and determines promotional, educational and research activities that can strengthen Indiana’s corn industry.

According to the Indiana Corn Market Development Law, those who vote in the election of directors to the ICMC Board must be an Indiana producer, which is defined as: Any person engaged in the business of producing and marketing corn in Indiana under the producer’s own name or the name of an entity in which the producer has ownership.

The state is divided into nine districts with one director representing each of the districts and six At-Large seats representing the entire state of Indiana. This year, ICMC has seats up for election in Districts 6 and 9, as well as two At-Large seats. All candidates are uncontested.

District 6: David Howell of Middletown, Ind. is running for re-election. District 6 counties include Blackford, Delaware, Fayette, Henry, Jay, Randolph, Union and Wayne.

District 9: Gerald Gauck, Milan, Ind. is running for re-election. District 9 counties include Clark, Dearborn, Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott and Switzerland.

At-Large seats: Mark Bacon of Milroy, Ind. and Dennis Maple of Greentown, Ind. are running for re-election. The At-Large seats represent the entire state of Indiana.

Newly-elected directors for districts 6 and 9 and the At-Large seats will serve three-year terms beginning October 1, 2014. ICMC directors can serve three consecutive full terms or a total of nine consecutive years.
