The House Agriculture Committee is expected to heat up the debate of biotech foods with a hearing set for Tuesday morning. The committee will markup a bill that would block state GMO labeling laws. AgriPulse reports it would be the first time that a committee has taken action on the Safe and Affordable Food Labeling Act. The act was introduced by Kansas Representative Mike Pompeo last Congress. A committee vote could send the bill on to the full House for consideration. The House Energy and Commerce Committee has joint jurisdiction with Agriculture on the bill, but AgriPulse reports it’s possible that the panel could waive its right to consider the measure.
