Indiana Corn Farmers Encouraged to Participate in American Ethanol Photo Challenge

AEGreenflagIndiana corn farmers have the opportunity to win tickets to the Brickyard 400 in celebration of NASCAR®’s ethanol usage by capturing a photo on their farm with the American Ethanol green flag. Sponsored by the Indiana Corn Marketing Council, the Green Flag Photo Challenge allows farmers to show their support for NASCAR’s six millionth mile run on Sunoco Green E15 fuel, which will take place in Indianapolis in late July.

To enter the Green Flag Photo Challenge, farmers should take a photo on their farm with the American Ethanol green flag, which can be found inside the Summer 2014 issue of Indiana Corn & Soybean Review magazine. Farmers can also download a printable flag from Indiana Corn Marketing Council’s website.

To submit a photo, visit www.incorn.org/greenflag by July 15.  Two winners will be selected at-random to receive a set of four tickets to the running of the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 27.

“Indiana is a leader in the production of ethanol and it is an important market for our corn, so we want to encourage Hoosier corn farmers to show their support of American ethanol while celebrating NASCAR’s milestone of six million miles run on E15 – a fuel that any car that was built after 2001 can use in their tanks today,” said David Howell, chairman of ICMC’s ethanol committee and farmer from Middletown, Ind.

In 2011, NASCAR® partnered with American Ethanol and the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) to make Sunoco Green E15 the exclusive fuel used at all NASCAR races. Three years later and in the heart of the Corn Belt at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, NASCAR will have raced 6 million miles on the Sunoco E15, which is 15 percent ethanol.

Ken Parrent, director of biofuels for the Indiana Corn Marketing Council, credits the racing partnership in helping to raise consumer demand and awareness for ethanol fuels. Two out of three NASCAR fans know ethanol is a renewable fuel, according to a recent survey.

“As a result of NASCAR support, consumers have a much more positive view of ethanol blended fuels. That translates into higher demand for ethanol and better returns for corn farmers,” said Parrent. “In addition to the increased consumer awareness of ethanol –

American Ethanol is one of the top 10 recognized brands in NASCAR – there have been positive environmental benefits from the partnership, including the fact that Sunoco E15 fuel emits 20 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than unleaded gasoline.”
