Indiana Farm Bureau Hosts Annual Legislator Appreciation Day

Indiana Farm Bureau’s Women’s Leadership Committee hosted its annual Legislator Appreciation Day today at the Statehouse. Attendees met with their legislators to explain how various pieces of legislation could affect their production agriculture and agri-business operations.

Each year, INFB’s Women’s Leadership Committee members invite women from their respective districts, many who have not formally had the opportunity to visit the Statehouse, to attend the event. Members in attendance not only have the opportunity to meet with their legislators, but also receive training and guidance from the INFB public policy team on how to engage with their legislators all year round.

“For our legislators to represent agriculture to the best of their abilities, it’s important that everyone in our industry speak up and share their story,” said Isabella Chism, INFB’s second vice president and chair of the women’s leadership committee. “INFB is proud to host an event that encourages the women in our membership to play an active role in our advocacy efforts at the Statehouse.”

This year, more than 40 members attended the event to represent Indiana’s women in agriculture. Attendees spoke with nearly 30 senators and representatives and their discussions focused on protecting farmers and their operations, strengthening rural quality of life, limiting annexation and ensuring assessment uniformity.

“Today’s event was also about letting our legislators know that we appreciate their service,” added Chism. “It’s a great opportunity each year to let them know that we’re thankful for their valuable representation.”
