ISDA Accepting Voting Certifications for Indiana State Fair Board Elections

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) is encouraging county agriculture organizations to submit a voting certification form in order to participate in the Indiana State Fair Board Elections.

This year, District 3 and District 7 board seats are up for election. The individual elected to represent the districts will serve a four-year term on the Indiana State Fair Board of Directors.

District 3 counties are: Adams, Allen, Blackford, DeKalb, Delaware, Grant, Huntington, Jay, LaGrange, Noble, Stueben, Wabash, and Wells; and the District 7 county is Marion.

In order for an agricultural organization to complete the certification process and cast a vote this fall, the organization must meet the following criteria. The organization:

• is an agricultural interest;
• is regularly organized within the district;
• has at least 10 active members;
• has duly elected officers;
• has an annual meeting;
• has been in existence for at least one year (formed before June 30, 2012); and
• filed to the ISDA before July 1, 2013.
The Indiana State Fair Board of Directors is a 17-member board that includes the Governor, Director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and Director of the Cooperative Extension Service (or their designees). Seven members, one from each of the Indiana State Fair’s seven districts, are appointed by the Governor. The remaining seven seats are filled through district elections.

Indiana State Fair Board Election Certification Forms can be found on the ISDA Web site’s State Fair page at https://www.in.gov/isda/2336.htm under the link: Request Form of Certification. All forms must be submitted to ISDA by July 1, 2013. The election will be held at the two district locations in September.
