Indiana State University has reached a strategic aviation and unmanned systems agreement with a school in Ohio. The memorandum of understanding with Sinclair Community College will focus on uses in agriculture and data analytics technology.

ISU Department of Aviation Technology Chair Richard Baker says “we have anticipated this day for some time as a great step forward for both Indiana and Ohio. There are times when two heads are better than one. In this case, ISU and Sinclair are partnering in a strategic alliance to address the needs of industry and the workforce.”

Officials say the partnership brings together a “broad and flexible” portfolio of areas of expertise, including aircrew training, aviation safety, system operations, data collection and analytics and will yield product and research opportunities for many industries.

In recent years, ISU has developed a growing reputation in the field of unmanned aerial systems. Its four year program focusing the technology is the first of its kind approved in the state and it has the support of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and the Indiana Office of Defense Development.

College of Technology Dean Bob English says “the programs at Sinclair Community College and ISU both focus on first-responders, precision agriculture and geo-spatial information. By partnering with Sinclair, our students have access to projects, equipment and companies that they would not otherwise have access to. We are at the intersection of big data and sensor application development. Our partnership will combine expertise in business solutions for big data and analytics wit
