With much of Indiana expecting a potential record harvest this year, the Indiana Grain Buyers and Warehouse Licensing Agency (IGBWLA) would like to remind all licensed grain facilities that they can apply for temporary or emergency storage by contacting the agency. “Across the state, farmers are seeing much higher yields than anticipated, which could lead to a shortage of storage space for some licensed grain facilities,” said Ed Sheldon, IGBWLA Director. “We want to make sure that every licensed grain facility in Indiana is aware that temporary and emergency storage is available and to contact our office for additional guidance or to apply.”
Temporary and emergency storage requests must be approved by the IGBWLA Director. Below are some of the requirements related to temporary and emergency storage, outlined in the Indiana Administrative Code (824 IAC 2-4-11):
Temporary storage requirements:
- Must have asphalt, concrete or lime floor
- Needs to have sidewalls
- Must have aeration
- Must have waterproof covering
- Must be removed by May 1, 2017 (unless granted extension by the IGBWLA Director)
Emergency storage requirements
- Must be grain owned by the elevator
- No stored grain allowed
- Must be removed by Jan. 31, 2017 (unless granted extension by the IGBWLA Director)
