Overnight Highlights

  • Overnight grain markets: Corn unchanged, Soybeans +8, Wheat +4-8, Crude +.35, Gold -2.9, Dollar -.10, Dow futures +151.
  • Mixed overnight trading and volume has tightened up compared to the last few sessions.  Markets are looking for the next headline to see if Chinese demand is affected by tariffs.
  • In NASS’s first crop rating release of the year, the winter wheat crop is rated at 32% GD/EX, down from 19% from last year.  US HRW is at some of its lowest ratings in over 20 years.
  • US Plains weather forecast remains a concern with variations in temperatures and limited chances of moisture in the next couple of weeks.
  • Weather looks to hinder field work and planting through much of the month of April according to most forecast as cool/wet weather dominates the corn belt.
